NinjaTrader 8 Risk Control Guide

NinjaTrader Risk Lock Add-On for Daily Loss Control

Nexus Chart Trader adds chart-integrated daily loss, daily profit, drawdown, cooldown, and session controls to NinjaTrader 8.

Its daily locks persist across crashes, restarts, and reconnections. Native NinjaTrader account risk settings may also be available, but they are separate from the Chart Trader panel and vary by account or connection.

What a NinjaTrader Risk Lock Add-On Does

A NinjaTrader risk lock add-on watches configured account conditions and acts when a threshold is reached. Depending on the rule, Nexus Chart Trader can flatten positions, cancel working orders, prevent new NCT entries, and keep the selected account locked until the configured session boundary.

This differs from a stop-loss attached to one trade. A daily lock evaluates the account or session condition, while a trade stop manages a single open position. Traders comparing tools should check where the control runs, what it monitors, what action it takes, and whether the locked state survives a platform restart.

Risk Controls Included with Nexus Chart Trader

Daily Loss Limit

Separate thresholds can be configured for Pro and Eval accounts. When triggered, NCT can flatten and lock the account for the session.

Daily Profit Target

A configured daily profit threshold can flatten positions and lock the account from further NCT entries.

Trailing Drawdown

Tracks peak net liquidation and can flatten when the configured drawdown from that peak is exceeded.

Profit Protector

After a profit milestone is reached, a hard floor or trailing percentage can protect part of the session gain.

Loss Cooldown

Selected accounts can be locked for a configured cooldown after a loss condition is met.

Session Auto-Close

Positions can be flattened before the configured session end to reduce accidental overnight exposure.

Native NinjaTrader Risk Settings vs Nexus Risk Locks

NinjaTrader's current account settings can include loss, profit, drawdown, and position guardrails for supported accounts. Nexus is useful when the desired controls need to sit inside the manual chart-execution workflow.

Availability and behavior of native settings can differ by account type and connection. Confirm the controls shown in your NinjaTrader Dashboard before relying on either layer.

The Important Limitation: Local Software Is Not a Broker Lock

Nexus Chart Trader runs inside NinjaTrader. Flattening, cancellation, and order blocking require NinjaTrader and the relevant account connection to be operating. A local add-on should not be presented as a guaranteed broker-side or prop-firm-side lock.

Use broker, prop-firm, or NinjaTrader account-level controls when they are available. NCT can provide a second chart-level enforcement layer and keep its own configured locks active across platform restarts. Test every rule in simulation before depending on it.

NinjaTrader Risk Lock FAQ

Does NinjaTrader have a daily loss lock?

NinjaTrader provides account-level risk settings for supported accounts and connections. The native Chart Trader panel does not include its own persistent daily loss lock. Nexus Chart Trader adds chart-integrated daily loss controls that can flatten and lock the selected account for the configured session.

Do Nexus risk locks survive a NinjaTrader restart?

Yes. Nexus daily risk locks persist across NinjaTrader crashes, restarts, and reconnections until the configured session boundary clears them.

Can a NinjaTrader risk add-on guarantee a broker-side lock?

No local NinjaTrader add-on should be described as a broker-side guarantee. Nexus risk controls run inside NinjaTrader, so flattening, order cancellation, and blocking require the platform and account connection to be operating. Broker or prop-firm controls remain a separate protection layer.

Is the Nexus risk lock sold separately?

The risk controls are included with the full Nexus Chart Trader lifetime license. The current price is $599 as a one-time payment.
